Josh Norman pledges $100,000 to aid Puerto Rico, calls out Donald Trump

Josh Norman pledged to donate $100,000 to help Puerto Rico after the U.S. territory was almost destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

The Redskins’ cornerback felt there was a lack of response by the U.S. government — and called out President Donald Trump.

“It’s truly bigger than football and everything else,” Norman said to the Washington Post. “This is not my job. This is my personal life. I don’t care what other people may think or say, like, ‘Just play football.’ No. You go to work, and you do what you want to do. After work, it’s no longer your job. So, for me, I look at it as I’m on this Earth to help people and help them be the best that they can be. I have the means to do so. I’m going to do that.”

Panthers director of communications Steven Drummond said Wednesday in a statement that he spoke with Newton and Rodrigue, “and I know they had a conversation where he expressed regret for using those words.”

Rodrigue said in a statement that Newton did not apologize. Mike Persinger, the executive sports editor of the Observer, said Newton’s comments were “unfortunate and out of line.”

In a statement Wednesday, the NFL said “the comments are just Cheap Jerseys Elite plain Cheap Jerseys From China NHL wrong and disrespectful to the exceptional female reporters and all journalists. They do not reflect the thinking of the league.”

The Pro Football Writers of America also condemned Newton’s comments, saying in a statement that he “crossed the line.”
